DETRIBALIZED: latinidad is fake

in july 2023, i attended a 2S & Indigiqueer gathering, and i met enrolled and detribalized elders and youth. one major truth we agreed on was that Native erasure is insidious. the americas include latin america, yet many latinos feel removed from their Native identity. latinidad is so ingrained that people reject the reclamation movement, and that's their whole point—to keep us away from our roots. we don't have to keep using labels colonizers imposed on us.
